Scenario: You and a friend have spent the night out socializing and have been drinking alcohol. Your friend needs emergency medical care, but both of you are under the legal drinking age. What should you do?

  1. Call for help.
    If you think someone needs help, call 911 immediately. Their life could depend on it!
  2. Stay with them until help arrives.
    According to Pennsylvania State Law, minors that dial 911 in order to get help for someone facing an alcohol-related emergency are exempt from criminal charges, even if they have been consuming alcohol as well. This law only applies if the caller remains with the individual that needs attention. Calling 911 and fleeing the scene may result in criminal charges for both you and your friend.
  3. Report what and how much alcohol the person has consumed to the first responders.
    To the best of your knowledge, tell emergency responders what your friend was drinking and how much they have consumed. This information could be helpful in getting the best treatment for your friend.
